Joe Refano knew he was meant to lead a musical life. “My first serious love affair was with the tenor sax. I was a kid listening to 50’s and 60’s AM radio. The Everly Brothers…Buddy Holly…Chuck Berry…Roy Orbison…The Four Seasons…The Beach Boys…filling my head with horns and guitars and swirling commentaries on life.

Then one day, as if in a dream, four guys from England arrived and changed everything forever. Their early songs were slices of reality, beautifully packaged into words and melodies even a kid could understand. From that moment on I was sure. No matter where I ended up, or what I was doing, music would be the centerpiece of my life. And as it turns, after years of performing in popular local bands out on Long Island in NY, and after sevral jobs in unrelated fields, I became a professional songwriter and composer and I’ve been at it since 1990. ”

In the early 2000’s, Joe began touring with Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone on bass and occaisonally guitar. During that time he also played bass with The Micky Dolenz Band (formerly of The Monkees) In 2003 he formed The Liverpool Shuffle…a popular NY Beatle Tribute Show. Since 2015, he has been playing bass and guitar, and contributing songs to THE STOLLER BROTHERS BAND. In 2021, Joe began working with icon of the British Invasion Billy J. Kramer.

Working with longtime partner and collaborator, Paul H. Brokaw, Joe Refano has written and produced thousands of pieces of music and songs that air around the world on TV, in films, in photographic productions, in advertisements and broadcast promotions.
